Marquis Los Cabos, our December 2019 work retreat, and the United flights home through Houston.
Where we stayed
Marquis Los Cabos · December 2019. Our base for my husband’s work retreat was an adults-only, all-inclusive resort overlooking the Sea of Cortez, on the corridor between San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.
I came as his plus-one. We had mornings and evenings together, and sometimes a little time between his meetings. I remember how beautiful it was, and how easily I could forget that one of us was still at work.
The flights home
Sunday, December 8, 2019 · United Airlines. We travelled from Los Cabos to Toronto with a connection at Houston George Bush Intercontinental.
- UA 2428: Los Cabos (SJD) to Houston (IAH). Scheduled departure 12:54 p.m.; arrival 4:23 p.m.
- UA 2420: Houston (IAH) to Toronto Pearson (YYZ). Scheduled departure 6:10 p.m.; arrival 10:20 p.m.
Times are local to each airport. The connection in Houston was scheduled for 1 hour 47 minutes. These are the return flights from our 2019 trip.
A holiday around his workday
Breakfast together, separate plans during the meetings, then finding each other again. Sometimes we could meet at the resort in the middle of the day. Those little gaps became part of the trip, rather than time I was simply waiting to get through.
The unexpected room guest
One morning after breakfast, I found a very large cockroach in our room and called my husband repeatedly while he was in a meeting. He left early and hurried back. Hotel staff had already dealt with it by the time he arrived.
They were much quicker than my imagination was at settling down.
